Swan Alloy 44 is the inaugural model in a new series of aluminium sailing yachts over 40 metres in length from Nautor Swan. The launch is planned for 2028.
To mark its 60th anniversary, Nautor Swan has begun welding the first structural sections – including the keel and engine room foundations – at the Gouwerok shipyard in the Netherlands, which specialises in aluminium fabrication. Once the aluminium hull and deck are completed, the yacht will be transported to Viareggio, Italy, for final fitting-out and delivery.
Both the hull and exterior design are by naval architect Malcolm McKeon, and thanks to his input, the Swan Alloy 44 marks a significant step forward for the Finnish shipyard, blending Swan’s tradition of sailing performance with the advantages of aluminium construction. The interiors were entrusted to Paris-based Studio Liaigre, which, in its latest projects, has taken a distinctive approach that combines innovation, elegance, and style, perfectly aligned with a new product set to become a benchmark in the large-yacht market. The goal is to provide a high level of comfort, with spaces designed to ensure exceptional livability and an outstanding onboard experience.
Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo and owner of the first yacht in the Swan Alloy range, was among those present at the start of construction. He expressed his excitement, saying, “This is my first sailing yacht, and I feel a special thrill after many motor yachts. For Nautor Swan, this project signifies a new chapter, taking the brand into uncharted territory while staying true to the values that have shaped Swan for over sixty years”.
At 43.5 metres long and 9.45 metres wide, the Swan Alloy 44 will be fitted with a telescopic keel, allowing a draft of 4.30 to 6.30 metres. With an estimated gross tonnage of 299 GT, the yacht will offer generous interior space and considerable scope for bespoke customisation. Southern Spars will manufacture the mast, whilst Doyle will supply the sails. From a technical perspective, the new Swan Alloy will be equipped with dual-energy technology, drawing on the hybrid propulsion expertise of both Sanlorenzo, with its hybrid models, and Nautor Swan, with its 51, 88, and 128 models. The aim is to achieve full energy self-sufficiency, with on-board energy generation and storage whilst at sea.
To support the commercial launch of the Swan Alloy range, Nautor Swan has partnered with the brokerage firm Edmiston to bring this model to market and strengthen the brand’s ambitions for growth at the very top of the global sailing market.
The project assembles a highly collaborative design and engineering team. Malcolm McKeon has worked closely with the Nautor Swan Group’s new Italian division, whose Technical Department has collaborated with the New Product Development team and the Finnish shipyard to create a yacht that honours Swan’s iconic aesthetic, while maximising the structural and design advantages of aluminium.
Although developed in the Netherlands and Italy, the project remains deeply rooted in the Finnish shipyard’s expertise. The Nautor Swan team continues to oversee key aspects of the programme, including the design philosophy, performance studies, and supply chain coordination. The Swan Alloy 44 also reflects the strategic vision guiding Nautor Swan’s next phase of growth under Sanlorenzo’s leadership, combining Swan’s sailing heritage with Sanlorenzo’s expertise in the superyacht sector.
