Ferrari SP-8 – A pure roadster

The Ferrari SP-8, a roadster based on the F8 Spider, was built exclusively for a Taiwanese customer. It is powered by a twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 with 720 horsepower

by Francesco Michienzi

The SP-8, an incredible bespoke car, is based on the Ferrari F8 Spider, from which it takes its chassis and engine. Flavio Manzoni, head designer at the Centro Stile Ferrari, has once again hit the jackpot with this project for a Taiwanese client who wanted to own and drive a unique Ferrari. The name SP-8 is a tribute to the 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, winner of the International Engine of the Year award for four consecutive years. The number eight is also a symbol of success and luck in Taiwanese culture. What makes the SP-8unique is the absence of a retractable hardtop. This required careful aerodynamic refinement through simulation, wind tunnel and dynamic testing.

The elimination of the retractable hardtop has allowed the rear to be redesigned. The full-width monolithic grille dominates the front.

FERRARI ONE-OFFS ARE EXCLUSIVE CARS, CREATED BY THE MARANELLO COMPANY’S SPECIAL PROJECTS PROGRAMME IN COLLABORATION WITH THE CUSTOMER.

Both the front and rear of the car have been redesigned using 3D printing technology, while the arrangement of vertical slats at the front has been optimised to direct airflow to the front radiators. Matt black paintwork adds a touch of exclusivity. The matt silver colour harmonises with the carbon fibre section, whose pattern and colour are also unique. The interior of the Ferrari has been completely redesigned, with a special centre console to house the F1 controls introduced on the SF90 Stradale. The seats are upholstered in Blu Navy Alcantara combined with a gradient cloth. Special twill carpets with an iridescent effect complete the interior.
